Merritt W. DeVoe fought in World War I. He was a member of the infamous Rainbow Division. After returning home, he met the love of his life, Margaret Hatlee. The two were married October 30, 1923. They had two children, Norma and Lawrence.
In 1931, Merrit and Margaret purchased land in Halfmoon, NY using his World War I veteran bonus. On the property, they planted apple trees, and DeVoe's Rainbow Orchards was born.
DeVoe’s Rainbow Orchards, which is now operated by Lawrence and his wife Ava, along with 4 of their 10 children. That small family garden planted by Merritt and Margaret has blossomed into an approximately 80 acre farm.
